When Should You Book Christmas Light Installation?

Holiday LightingChristmas LightsSeasonalDFW

Quick Answer

Book early in the fall if you want your Christmas lights up before Thanksgiving. We take holiday lighting bookings through December 15. Mid-October still works for most DFW neighborhoods if you can flex the install into the first half of December. Booking in November means choosing from whatever dates are left, because installers book a fixed number of install days and they fill front to back.

When Should You Book Christmas Light Installation? — Loera's Landscaping DFW blog

Book early in the fall if you want your lights up before Thanksgiving. Mid-October still works for most neighborhoods if you can flex the install into the first half of December. Book in November and you are choosing from whatever dates are left, which is usually the back half of the month.

That is the whole answer. Here is why the calendar works that way, and what it actually costs you to wait.

The Calendar Fills Front to Back

Installers book dates, not houses. Every crew has a fixed number of install days between the first cool week of October and the middle of December, and those days get claimed in the order people say yes.

The dates that go first are the ones everybody wants: the week before Thanksgiving and the weekend right after it. That is when most North Texas families want the house lit, because that is when relatives are in town and the neighborhood turns on all at once. Once those blocks are spoken for, they are gone for the season. There is no version of the schedule where they come back.

What is left after that is early and mid December. Those are perfectly good install dates. They are just not the ones most people had in mind when they started calling.

What the Demand Curve Actually Looks Like

This is not a sales line, it is just how the season moves. National search-volume data for the 2025 season shows people looking for Christmas light installation at roughly 33,000 searches in September, about 60,500 in October, and about 110,000 in November.

Read that as a queue rather than a graph. Demand roughly doubles from September to October, and doubles again into November. By the time the November crowd starts calling, the September and October callers already have the good dates. The people searching in November are competing for what is left, against three times as many other people.

If you are reading this in September, you are early, and early is the only real advantage available in this business.

Booking Early Does Not Make It Cheaper

We want to be straight about this, because plenty of companies are not.

The install does not cost less in October. It is the same roofline, the same crew hours, the same commercial-grade LED, the same ladder work. Anybody telling you there is an early-bird discount is either padding the later price or discounting a scope you have not seen yet.

What booking early actually buys you is two things: the date you want, and the scope you want. The second one matters more than people expect. The elaborate designs, full canopy wraps on a mature live oak, columns and garland, bed wash across the front, all need a bigger block of crew time. Those are the first jobs that become unschedulable when the calendar tightens. So a late booking does not just push your date, it quietly narrows what you are allowed to ask for.

What Happens Between Saying Yes and the Lights Coming On

Booking is not the install. There is a design walk in between, and it is the step that makes the quote real.

We come out, measure the roofline, look at the trees and the beds, and talk through what you actually want lit. That walk is where the fixed price comes from, because nobody can price a roof they have not counted. It is also where the scope gets decided: roofline only, or roofline plus two trunk wraps, or the full front elevation.

Once the design and the price are agreed, the install date is reserved. Install day is the install. Then the timer is set to your schedule, one mid-season service visit is included if something fails in December, and takedown happens in early January. The lights are yours to keep.

The whole flow, including everything that can go into a design, is on our Christmas light installation page.

What to Do If It Is Already November

Call anyway. Seriously.

Two things are still true in November. Cancellations happen, and simpler scopes are easier to slot into a partial day than elaborate ones. A straightforward single-story roofline can often find a gap that a full estate design cannot. And if the answer genuinely is early December, early December still gets you a lit house for the entire stretch that matters most, from the first week of December through New Year.

The only genuinely bad move is deciding in late November that you will just do it yourself, and then discovering on a cold Saturday that a two-story roofline is a much longer afternoon than it looked from the driveway.
