Dallas landscaping is a shade problem before it is anything else
Dallas sits on the same Blackland Prairie clay as the rest of the metroplex, but the landscaping challenge here is age and shade. Lakewood, Preston Hollow, Old East Dallas, and Greenway Parks are mature-canopy neighborhoods where decades of pecans and live oaks throw deep shade that Bermuda cannot survive. The first decision on any Dallas project is honest: which sections get real sun, which are partial, and which are canopy. Then St. Augustine goes under the trees, Palisades Zoysia in the partial shade, Bermuda only where the sun is genuine, and the beds get structured evergreen and understory planting that reads well under a canopy.
Old lots, drifted grading, and irrigation that has aged out
Many Dallas yards have been in the ground for forty to eighty years. The grading has drifted, original irrigation has aged out, and drainage has quietly gotten worse with every storm. That is why we walk every property before quoting and start with water: regrade where it pools, correct downspouts that dump against the foundation, and plan beds and sod around tree root zones instead of cutting through them. Each installation protects the trees that make the neighborhood.
Historic districts, established-neighborhood rules, and Stage 1 watering
Munger Place and Lakewood Heights are historic districts, and certain blocks of Lake Highlands, the M Streets, and Vickery Place have their own expectations for how a front yard reads from the street. We work to those standards. Dallas also runs Stage 1 most years, twice-a-week watering on days assigned by your address, so we plant and sod for that schedule and set new sod up to use its 30-day variance well. If you also need commercial or HOA common-area work, see our commercial landscaping page.
In December the same rooflines and mature trees we landscape around become the display. We install Christmas lights across Dallas, measured on site, with January takedown included. See our Christmas light installation page for pricing, or the Dallas Christmas lights page.
