Carrollton in May: May the 4th, Farmers Market, and the Yard You Haven't Touched

May in Carrollton is a whole thing. The "May the 4th Be With You" free event takes over Historic Downtown Square on May 4 — gaming trailers, costume contests, the 501st Legion, the whole Star Wars thing. The Historic Downtown Farmers Market is running Saturdays through spring. And then, before you blink — it's Mother's Day weekend.

Mother's Day 2026 lands on Sunday, May 10. Three weeks from now. Which feels like plenty of time until you realize you haven't touched the yard since March.

The Mother's Day Yard Reality Check

Here's what we see every year around this time: somebody calls us the Wednesday before Mother's Day wanting a full cleanup for Sunday brunch. And we wish we could. But good crews book out two to three weeks in spring — that's just how it works when half of North Texas wants the same thing at the same time.

If you're hosting your mom, your mother-in-law, or the whole family for Mother's Day — and your front beds are full of last year's dead annuals, your mulch is faded to gray, your lawn's got bare patches, or your shrubs haven't seen a pair of shears since last fall — now is when you book it, not the week of.

What a Mother's Day Cleanup Actually Looks Like

It's not rocket science, but it makes a massive difference when it's all done together. Here's what we knock out in a typical spring refresh:

Fresh mulch in every bed. Two to three inches of dark hardwood. Instantly makes the whole property look cared-for.

Clean, re-cut bed edges. Sharp lines between lawn and bed. This is the detail most people miss and it changes everything.

Shrub and hedge shaping. Proper spring cuts on everything that grew wild over winter.

Color in the front beds. Petunias, marigolds, snapdragons — whatever hits your budget and style. Thirty minutes of planting that makes the whole house feel alive.

Sod the rough spots. If the lawn's got bare patches, late April is still a great window for fresh Bermuda or Zoysia. Plenty of time to root before your family shows up.

Pressure wash the walkway and driveway. You stop noticing the winter grime until it's gone.
